Born and raised in Iowa, Kristen Richey moved to Ames 15 years ago to refine her craft behind the chair. Early experiments (like foiling her Barbie’s hair) evolved into co-owning and managing one of Ames’ top luxury salons.

A graduate of the Faust Institute of Cosmetology in Storm Lake, she launched her professional career in Ames immediately after finishing school. Her dedication to perfecting each cut has earned her multiple nominations as “Best Hairstylist” in the Best of Story County Community Choice Awards.

Kristen specializes in razor cutting wavy and curly hair, believing that with the right technique, anyone can wear a pixie or bangs. She sees each client’s hair as a blank canvas and envisions the final look within seconds.

The Kristen Richey Collective reflects her belief that being defined by a single passion is too limiting. Beyond hair, she explores multiple creative outlets like painting, clothing design and gardening and channels those inspirations back into her work. She’s continually seeking new ways to refine her craft, driven by a perfectionism that won’t settle for less than a look that truly elevates her guests.

Outside of the salon you can find her barefoot in Huxley daydreaming about a new project or outside clipping wildflowers with her two children and partner.
